Omicron Scare: No Change In Date Of Summative Assessment For Matric Students, Says Odisha Minister

Bhubaneswar: Amid reports of Omicron cases in the state, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Das on Saturday said the state government will go ahead with the summative assessment for Class X students on January 5.

Allaying the apprehension of Class X students regarding the assessment date in the wake of possible spread of Omicron variant of COVID-19, the minister told the media persons that the test is necessary for the Matriculation candidates. In case, the Matric examination is not held, the summative assessment can be used for evaluation, he added.

Regarding continuation of physical classes of the school students, he said the state government has already alerted them regarding the variant and its possible spread. They have been advised to follow the precautions and guidelines.

Besides, the government is in contact with district education officers and taking stock of the situation at district level. The nodal officers have also been directed to constantly monitor to take steps in case of any outbreak, the minister said.

The Board of Secondary Education (BSE) had started the online application process for filling up of forms for the Class X students and summative assessment-I for 2021-22 session on November 18.
