Omicron Variant Movie: Did 1963 Sci-Fi Film Predict Pandemic? Watch It On YouTube

New Delhi: The World Health Organization (WHO) designated the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 as a ‘variant of concern’ in November. The variant, which was discovered by the South African researchers, is named after the Greek alphabet letter.

According to several netizens, the variant sounded like something out of a science fiction movie and there is in fact an Italian movie called Omicron released way back in 1963.

The Italian movie ‘Omicron’ was written and produced by Ufo Gregoretti. The film plot though does not feature anything about the COVID variant, but about an alien who takes over someone’s body to learn about Earth, hoping to eventually invade the planet. The movie is on Youtube.

There is also another film titled ‘A Visitor From Planet Omicron’ which was released in 2013. The movie is about story of an alien who appears on earth with a botanical virus, but a gutsy Arizona widow wins his heart with her garden-fresh cooking. He then tries to topple the corrupt government that put him up to it. The movie can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.

Since the time WHO designated the Omicron as a ‘variant of concern’ on November 26, nations across the world have begun reinstating restrictions to curb the spread of the new strain of COVID-19.

The Union health ministry announced during a press conference that two cases of the Omicron variant virus were detected in Karnataka.

“Two cases of Omicron detected in Karnataka so far through genome sequencing effort of INSACOG consortium of 37 laboratories established by the Ministry of Health. We need not panic, but awareness is absolutely essential. COVID apt behaviour is required,” the Joint Secretary of Union Health Ministry, Lav Agarwal, said.
