Bhubaneswar: On the first day of online liquor sale in Odisha, a youth was allegedly duped of Rs 36,000 by a vendor here on Monday.
The youth belonging to Chandrasekharpur ordered liquor worth around Rs 1,000 online. Even as he was waiting for the delivery of liquor, money continued to be deducted from his account.
As the deducted amount went up to Rs 26,000, he asked the vendor about it. As per the vendor’s advice, he scanned another QR code to get the money back. But this time, Rs 10,000 more was deducted.
The youth then approached Chandrasekhar Police but he was reportedly told by the cops that several such cases were pending and filing a complaint won’t serve any purpose.
Earlier in the day, confusion prevailed in the city as some liquor shops started across the counter sale despite the Excise department not issuing permission for it. As crowd began to swell, police intervened and closed the shops.
Meanwhile, the vendors have been asked not to resort to counter sale while online sale will continue.
