Bhubaneswar: One person died while four others were injured in a car crash on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar late on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Swain, who was at the wheels of the ill-fated car. The injured are Rajesh Maharana, Kanhu Charan Mallick, Chandan Mallick and Sangram Rout, all employees of a mixture company at Mancheswar here.
According to sources, the accident took place around 1.20 am on Lingipur Daya bridge near Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway bypass, when the four were returning to Bhubaneswar from Puri after attending a feast last night. The car crashed into a roadside tree and then hit an electric pole, killing the driver on the spot. The power pole tilted towards road under the impact of the collision, which is being attributed to low visibility due to dense fog.
While locals could rescue two persons, fire brigade personnel had to be called in to bring out the remaining two trapped inside the mangled remains of the car. The injured were admitted to Capital Hospital here and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. The condition of two among them was stated to be serious.
Dhauli police have seized the car and begun an investigation.
