Ghaziabad: One person was injured in a mysterious explosion inside the Vasundhara police outpost in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram area late on Friday night.
The blast triggered a full-scale investigation by local authorities and specialised forensic units.
It shattered windowpanes and caused structural cracks along the walls of the police facility, sending shockwaves through the local community.
The injured man has been identified as 20-year-old Vishal, a food delivery executive and resident of Arthala in Ghaziabad. He had gone to the outpost to deliver an item to a sub-inspector who was present at the premises at the time. The sudden force of the blast blew out surrounding glass panels, causing flying shards to hit the youth.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where medical personnel treated his head injuries. Authorities confirmed that his condition remains stable. Senior officials from the Trans Hindon Zone and Indirapuram police station quickly arrived at the spot following the incident, as reported by Republic TV.
Investigative units were deployed immediately, given the sensitive location of the explosion within a police outpost. A forensic team, a bomb disposal squad, and personnel from the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) were called to examine the scene, secure potential physical evidence, and evaluate the precise nature of the blast.
The explosion may have originated from a technical malfunction involving an air conditioning unit housed inside the ageing facility, preliminary findings suggested. Senior officials have, however, said that all investigative angles remain open.
Nearby infrastructure, including subterranean sewer lines and gas pipelines are also being inspected by the authorities to rule out gas leakage or pressure buildup as potential causes. Official statements have initially discounted the involvement of explosive substances, though detailed laboratory analyses of recovered samples are pending.
Residents reported hearing a sharp, loud bang that sparked immediate panic in the surrounding neighbourhood. Police have assured the public that the situation is under control, and security around nearby outposts has been briefly heightened as a standard precaution.
A detailed investigation report is expected once forensic and technical experts complete their comprehensive analysis of the site.
