Phulbani: One person died and 15 others were grievously injured when a government-run bus skidded off the road and dashed against a tree near Khajuripada in Odisha’s Kandhamal district.
The mishap took place when the bus was proceeding from Kandhamal’s Lanjigarh to Cuttack on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as conductor of the bus Soumya Das, who hailed from Dhenkanal district’s Kanhiapal.
Sources said the accident took place when the bus lost balance and hit a roadside tree near Khajuripada. The injured passengers were rushed to Khajuripada Hospital for treatment.
Arrangements were made for the other passengers to proceed to their respective destinations.
On being informed, Khajuripada police have launched an investigation into the accident.
