Lucknow: One person was killed and nearly 75 persons were injured in the violent clashed that broke on Monday, during the countrywide Bharat Bandh call. More than 440 people were detained on various charges.
Several Dalit groups had called for a Bharat Bandh, to protest the alleged ‘dilution’ of the SCs/STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
“During the bandh, violence broke out in Muzaffarnagar, Hapur, Meerut and Agra. There were no incidents in 90 per cent of districts. We have sounded a high-alert in the state,” DIG, Law and Order Praveen Kumar said.
“One person died during violence in Muzaffarnagar. As of now about 35-40 policemen and 30-35 protesters were stated to be injured,” he added.
