New Delhi: At least 12 terrorists were killed and over 55 injured in OperationSindoor launched by Indian armed forces early on Wednesday, according to reports.

In a precise and restrained response to the Pahalgam attacks in which 26 civilians were killed on April 22, India hit nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir overnight. It targeted bases used for planning and directing terrorist activities.

Indian TV channels reported that 12 terrorist were killed and 55 injured across these 9 areas.

“The strike is a very calibrated move. The escalation is now strictly subjected to Pakistan’s reaction,” Air Marshal Sanjeev Kapoor was quoted as saying.

While confirming the air strikes by India, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promised a “robust response.”  “The cunning enemy has carried out a cowardly attack on five locations in Pakistan. Pakistan fully reserves the right to respond forcefully to this warlike act imposed by India. The entire nation stands with the Pakistan Armed Forces,” he posted on X.

According to CNN World, Pakistan’s military accused India of launching missile strikes. “Pakistan will retaliate at a time and place of its choosing,” said military spokesperson Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry in a statement to Geo TV.

“This egregious act will face consequences. The temporary pleasure of India will be replaced by enduring grief,” he added.

The report, quoting Pakistani military sources, added that several powerful explosions were reported in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Five sites: Kotli, Ahmadpur East, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, and Muridke were hit. While Kotli, Muzaffarabad, and Bagh are in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, Ahmadpur East and Muridke are in Punjab province.

Sources said that Pakistan Prime Minister has called a meeting of the National Security Committee at 10 am. Lahore and Sialkot airports in Pakistan have been closed for the next 48 hours
