Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance team on Tuesday intercepted Bidyut Ranjan Bhol, Deputy Manager of the Sambalpur Division in the Odisha Police Housing & Welfare Corporation (OPHWC), near Sambalpur railway station and recovered Rs 5 lakh suspected bribe money.
Acting on credible intelligence about bribe collection by the official, Vigilance teams conducted the search on the basis of a warrant issued by Special Judge (Vigilance), Sambalpur.
Following which, simultaneous raids were carried out at multiple locations linked to Bhol, including his residences and properties in Sambalpur, Bhubaneswar, and Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district. During the search at his Bhubaneswar residence, another Rs 5 lakh in cash was recovered, taking the total seized cash to Rs 10 lakh.
Additionally, two trunks containing approximately 70 bundles of Rs 500 denomination notes were found concealed at his sister’s residence at Chandrasekharpur here.
Vigilance officials have deployed currency counting machines at the sites, and the process of tallying the seized notes is currently underway, an official release said.
