Orange Alert: Thunderstorm, Hail & Gusty Wind To Lash 9 Odisha Dists In 3 Hours

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange warning for some places in nine districts of Odisha till 5.30 pm on Tuesday.

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty wind speed reaching 40- 50 kmph, hail and light to moderate rain is likely in some parts of Nuapada, Balasore, Boudh, Deogarh, Koraput, Angul, Cuttack, Balangir and Ganjam during the next 3 hours.

The MeT office had issued similar warning for Khandhamal, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur and Ganjam for three hours till 4.30 pm.

People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and move to safer places protect themselves from lightning strikes.

Notably, nor’wester or thunderstorm activity is likely to continue for another 3-4 days in Odisha with rain, lightning, isolated hail and gusty surface wind in some districts. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Boudh til 8.30 am on Wednesday.

Hailstorm is also likely at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Deogarh while there is a forecast for thunderstorm with lightning for the remaining parts of the state during this period.

Many places in Coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Koraput and Rayagada and one or two places in rest districts may also experience light to moderate rain, it added.
