Orange Warning: Very Heavy Rain To Lash Odisha Till August 3 Morning

Bhubaneswar: With the low pressure area now lying over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha and West Bengal coasts and the monsoon trough passing through it, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday issued orange warning for heavy to very heavy rain in several districts of Odisha till August 3 morning.

“The Low Pressure Area over north Odisha and adjoining West Bengal Coasts now lies over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha and West Bengal coasts. The Monsoon Trough is also passing through Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bareilly, Patna, Bankura, center of low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha and West Bengal coasts.”

According to the midday bulletin, heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in Sambalpur, Boudh, Nayagarh and Angul districts till 8.30 am on Monday. Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Sonepur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Koraput.

On July 31, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Dhenkanal, Angul and Sambalpur. Heavy rainfall may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Kalahandi and Kandhamal.

The orange warning continues for the next 2 days.

On August 1, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at one or two places in Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Bargarh, Sambalpur. Yellow warning for heavy rainfall has also been issued for one or two places in Dhenkanal, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khurda, Angul, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Nabarangpur.

In the subsequent 24 hours (August 2), heavy to very heavy rainfall may lash one or two places in Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Bargarh, Balangir, Kalahandi and Kandhamal. Heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Ganjam.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely at most places across the state during these four days. The intensity of rainfall activity is likely to decrease with no orange warning thereafter.

On August 3, Heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Sundargarh with light to moderate rain or thundershower at most places in Interior Odisha and at many places in coastal districts of the state.

The IMD had warned of temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas and underpass road and wall collapse of vulnerable kutcha houses and some damages to kutcha road. There is also a possibility of landslides in vulnerable hilly areas in Kalahandi and Kandhamal. “Mining activity may be judicially regulated in Angul and Dhenkanal districts, it added.
