Orissa HC Bar Association Opposes Move To Set Up Two Permanent Benches
Cuttack: Orissa High Court Bar Association on Wednesday passed a resolution opposing establishment of two permanent benches in Western and Southern Odisha.
The HC Bar Association has decided to form an action committee to prepare a resentment representation for submission to the Chief Justice requesting not to give his consent for establishment of two permanent benches of the High Court of Orissa both in south and western parts of the state. The resolution was passed at the General Body at a meeting which was presided over by senior advocate Kali Prasanna Mishra, the President of High Court Bar Association on Wednesday.
The move by the lawyers’ body comes just days after Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju urged Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to obtain the Orissa High Court nod for setting up the HC benches in western and southern Odisha.
The High Court Bar Association opposed the Union Minister’s statements and passed a resolution protesting the initiative taken by the Centre.
The demand for setting up a permanent bench in western and southern Odisha has been a longstanding demand of people of the two regions.
