Cuttack: The Orissa High Court on Tuesday granted conditional bail to BJD MLA Pravat Biswal in connection with the multi-crore Seashore chit fund scam.
In his reaction, the Choudwar-Cuttack MLA said, “I got justice from the high court. I express my gratitude to BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for reposing faith in me. I also thank the people of my constituency and my well wishers who are praying for my early recovery.”
when asked about his health condition, the legislator said that he is feeling better after getting bail from the court.
On April 24, the court had granted interim bail to him against two sureties of Rs 5 lakh each.
He was also asked co-operate with the investigating agency and not to destroy any evidence pertaining to the case.
Biswal was arrested by the CBI from his Mahanadi Vihar residence in Cuttack for his alleged complicity in the scam, on September 19 last year. He was under the lens for a deal between his wife Laxmi Bilasini Biswal and Seashore Group CMD Prashant Dash over a piece of land at Benapur mouza in Jajpur district.
The Special CBI Court in Bhubaneswar and the District Judge and Sessions Court has earlier rejected Biswal’s bail pleas following which he had been remanded to judicial custody.
He was admitted to Capital Hospital after his health condition deteriorated on September 25 and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital here on a recommendation of a panel of doctors comprising of Orthopaedic, Medicine, Surgery and Cardiology specialists.
The BJD lawmaker had undergone a CT scan on June 2.
