OUAT Issues Advisory For Farmers In Odisha For Heat Wave

Bhubaneswar: In view of prevalent heat wave in the state, the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT) on Monday issued an advisory for the farmers.

The OUAT, in its advisory, told the farmers to refrain from doing strenuous work in farm fields under the scorching Sun. It warned that sweating due to the heat may lead to Sun stroke.

In case of extremely necessary field works, the farmers have been advised to carry cool water to the fields and consumer sufficient quantity during the work.

The university also advised the farmers not to let the cattle graze in open field and keep them under shade during noon. They were told to make arrangement for providing sufficient water to the cattle.

It may be noted that Odisha has been reeling under heat wave for the last 3 days with mercury crissing 40 degree Celsius at several places.

Five places in the state recorded 40°C and above with Jharsuguda recording highest maximum temperature of 41.4°C, followed by Sambalpur 41.2°C, Bhubaneswar 40.4°C and Chandbali and Hirakud at 40.0°C each, according to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Department.

The IMD has forecast a further rise in day temperature by 3°C at many places in interior Odisha during the next 2 days and slight fall thereafter.
