New Delhi: Video footage of a woman driving over a child playing inside a housing complex in Ghaziabad has led to outrage among social media users, many of whom have demanded her immediate arrest.
Though the incident is from Monday evening, the footage from CCTV cameras became public only on Wednesday night, sparking shock and horror.
What seems to have irked social media users is the fact that the woman, identified as one Sandhya, leaves her high-end vehicle, takes a look at the injured child being rescued from under the car by others, and then flees the spot. Many viewers have stated that the least that she could do was help drive the child to a nearby hospital.

The footage is from S G Grand Society in Rajasthan Nagar Extension, Ghaziabad. It shows a car entering the premises and running over the five and a half year old child who was playing on the premises, under its front left wheel. The woman was apparently driving her husband’s car. Police suspect that momentary loss of concentration caused the accident.
The child is now in hospital with serious injuries. He has fractured his right thigh bone and there are multiple injuries on his right hand, left leg and back. Doctors are yet to determine if the minor will be able to lead a normal life, even if he survives the trauma. The child’s father has lodged a complaint against the woman at Nandgram police station. She has been charged with rash driving and endangering the lives of others.
