Bhubaneswar: Ahead of Ramadan, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan granted clemency to 1,295 prison inmates, including nearly 500 Indians, and pledged to settle their financial obligations.
Additionally, Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum pardoned 1,518 prisoners, with the orders implemented in late February.
As per media reports disclosed, over 500 Indian nationals were pardoned ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr 2025, reflecting the UAE’s commitment to its ties with India and its broader approach to justice and diplomacy.
Dubai’s Attorney General confirmed that, following the clemency, Dubai Public Prosecution and Dubai Police have begun legal procedures for the release of pardoned inmates, allowing them to reunite with their families and reintegrate into society.
The UAE’s clemency reflects its commitment to justice, compassion, and strong diplomatic ties with India, continuing its Ramadan tradition of pardoning prisoners.
However, along with their release, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed’s government has pledged to settle their financial obligations, easing hardships and enabling a fresh start for inmates and their families.
The UAE’s annual Ramadan pardons highlight its commitment to mercy, second chances, and social stability, promoting forgiveness and rehabilitation in line with the Holy Month’s values.
