Over One Lakh Criminal Cases Registered In Odisha During COVID Pandemic: Minister
Bhubaneswar: More than one lakh cases of cognizable crimes have been registered in Odisha during the COVID-19 pandemic last year, minister of state for Home Dibya Shankar Mishra informed at the State Assembly on Monday.
Replying to a question by BJD member Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, Mishra said that 1,13,420 criminal cases were registered during 10 months between March and December 2020, with 51,617 accused being arrested.
Referring to cyber crimes in the state, he informed that 4237 cyber cases have been registered in the last three years — 877 in 2018, 1475 in 2019 and 1931 in 2020.
Of those 4237 cases, 1319 have been registered for crime against women while 2704 are fraud cases. While 974 persons have been arrested, only one accused has been convicted.
To another question by the BJP member Mohan Majhi, the minister said Rs 48,49,48,370 have been collected as penalty for violation of COVID-19 guidelines during the last 10 months.
