Nimapara: A special flying squad seized cash worth more than Rs 18 lakh from a car at Nimapara in Odisha’s Puri district on Saturday.
According to sources, the squad, while frisking vehicles on Nimapara-Kakatpur road, flagged down a car of a local sarpanch near Panichhatra. On checking, cash worth Rs 18,70,500 was found in the vehicle.
The officials later took the sarpanch for interrogation to seek clarification for carrying cash of high value.
According to the directive of Election Commission of India (ECI), any person carrying more than Rs 50,000 cash or gift of high value has produce valid documents to explain the source.
