Nabarangpur: The district headquarters hospital in Nabarangpur will have an oxygen plant very soon, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mohapatra said on Monday.

The chief secretary said this during a visit to the district headquarters town to review the COVID-19 situation. He was accompanied by the Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Pradipta Mohapatra.

He told the media that the test positivity rate (TPR) in Nabarangpur district has come down to 13 per cent from 20 per cent.

He further said the RT-PCR machine at the district headquarters hospital will be operationalized very soon so that the number of daily tests can be increased to around 600 per day.

On COVID vaccination, the chief secretary said around 20,000 residents of Nabarangpur town in 18-44 age group have been vaccinated. Efforts are on to vaccinate another 10,000 people, he added.

On the treatment of COVID patients, Mohapatra said an ICU and ventilators in the district headquarters hospital were made operational 15-20 days ago. Besides, arrangements are being made to add 200 beds in the hospital in 2-3 months.

The chief secretary and ACS are also scheduled to visit Koraput district later in the day and oversee the functioning of the COVID care centres and vaccination drive.
