Lahore: Days after being feted by the US for its ‘contribution’ towards ‘combating’ terror in the region and the world, Pakistan revealed its true colours during the country’s Independence Day on August 14.
Top Pakistan Army officers and senior civilian officials were seen openly paying respects at the grave of a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist eliminated in India’s recent Operation Sindoor.
During the day, Major General Rao Imran Sartaj, general officer commanding (GOC), Lahore Division, federal minister Malik Rashid Ahmed Khan, district police officer Kasoor Muhammad Isa Khan, and deputy commissioner Imran Ali visited the grave of Mudasir Ahmed in Muridke, Lahore, to pay their respects.
Mudasir, a high-value LeT operative, was linked to the 1999 IC-814 hijacking and the 2019 Pulwama terror attack. He was among those killed when Indian forces targeted Markaz Taiba, the LeT headquarters in Muridke on May 7.
Mudasir’s funeral in Muridke was led by LeT commander Abdul Rauf (also known as Abdur Rauf), a specially designated global terrorist under US Treasury sanctions. Senior Pakistan Army officers and the Punjab Inspector General of Police were seen offering funeral prayers alongside LeT cadres on May 7.
Besides Mudasir Ahmad, the Indian strike also took out other long-wanted LeT terrorists, including Yusuf Azhar and Abdul Malik Rauf. Both were key planners of major terror plots against India.
The visit on August 14 have laid bare Pakistan’s double-speak on counter-terrorism – publicly claiming to fight terror, while state machinery continues to honour UN and US-listed terrorists.
