New Delhi: Pakistani prime minister Shehbaz Sharif has finally admitted that Indian ballistic missiles did strike the Nur Khan Air base in Rawalpindi and other military installations during Operation Sindoor.
Sharif was speaking at a ceremony at the Pakistan Monument on Friday when he said that Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir had called him around 2.30 am to inform about the strikes. Sharif said that Pakistan’s Air Force used local technology and Chinese jets. He confirmed that the Indian missiles reached their targets.
“At around 2.30 am on May 10, General Syed Asim Munir called me on the secure line and informed me that India’s ballistic missiles have hit Nur Khan Airbase and other areas,” Sharif is heard saying in a video widely circulated on social media.
He further claimed that the Pakistan Air Force responded using indigenous technology and Chinese aircraft equipped with modern systems. “We used Chinese fighter jets during the conflict with India… and India was busy chest-thumping about being a Quad member,” he said.
However, Pakistan’s official line shortly after the reported strikes was that India did not hit any significant target, and their air defences thwarted the attempt.
BJP leader Amit Malviya also shared the video on X and said: “Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif himself admits that General Asim Munir called him at 2.30 am to inform him that India had bombed Nur Khan Air Base and several other locations. Let that sink in — the Prime Minister was woken up in the middle of the night with news of strikes deep inside Pakistan. This speaks volumes about the scale, precision, and boldness of Operation Sindoor.”

India began Operation Sindoor on May 7 in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. The Indian Armed Forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Over 100 terrorists from groups like Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen were killed.
After India’s operation, Pakistan responded with shelling across the Line of Control and International Border. There were also drone attacks on Indian military and civilian targets. India then carried out a coordinated attack and hit radar systems, communication centres, and airfields at 11 airbases in Pakistan.
