New Delhi: Even as India has vowed to punish the terrorists and their backers who carried out the Pahalgam massacre on April 22, Pakistan remains on the edge and is trying to disturb its neighbours in different ways.
One such means is through Pakistan-based hackers, who have been targeting Indian Defence websites.
According to sources in the defence establishment, the cyber attacks may have compromised sensitive information about defence personnel, including their login credentials.
An X handle, Pakistan Cyber Force, has claimed that hackers gained access to sensitive data of the Military Engineer Services and the Manohar Parrikar Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis.
The group also tried to deface the website of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AMVN), a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence. The AMVN website has been taken offline for a thorough audit to assess the extent of any potential damage caused by the hacking attempt, NDTV reported quoting sources in Defence establishment.
The Pakistan Cyber Force handle, which has subsequently been withheld in India, had posted images of a webpage from AMVN in which an Indian tank was replaced by a Pakistani tank.
In another post, the X handle mentioned names of Indian defence personnel, with the message: “Hacked. Your security is illusion. MES data owned.”
It claimed having accessed more than 10 GB data of 1,600 users on the Manohar Parrikar Institute of Defence Studies and Analysis website.
Last week, Pakistan-backed hackers had targeted several Army schools in India.
Experts in India are monitoring cyberspace to detect any other possible attacks, and taking appropriate measures to strengthen security infrastructure so that further intrusion attempts could be foiled.
