Pakistani Terror Groups Continue To Target India, Says US State Dept Report
New Delhi: The United States criticised Pakistan for not doing enough to counter terrorism, particularly in its pledge to dismantle terrorist organisations without delay.
The US Department of State noted in its ‘Country Reports on Terrorism 2020’ that still many terrorist organisations are operating from Pakistan, especially those targeting India. The report named groups like LeT and its affiliated front organisations, and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
The report also said that Pakistan failed to take action against other prominent terrorists like JeM founder and UN-designated terrorist Masood Azhar and 2008 Mumbai attack “project manager” Sajid Mir. Both terrorists are believed to be having a free run in Pakistan.
According to the report, the military and security forces of Pakistan undertook counter-terrorism operations against organisations that launched attacks within Pakistan. The organisations named here are Tehrike-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), ISIS-K, and the Balochistan Liberation Army.
However, Pakistan took only a few steps in 2020 to counter terror financing and stop India-focused militant groups from launching attacks, said the report.
