Islamabad: Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s upcoming official visit to the United States, but a typographical error in the press release quickly became the focus of a widespread online reaction.
The official statement, which outlined Sharif’s planned visit at the invitation of US President Donald Trump to attend the inaugural session of the Board of Peace on 19 February 2026, contained a glaring mistake in the headline — referring to the destination as the “Unites States of Americas” instead of the correct United States of America, reported News 18.
The unusually phrased title instantly sparked extensive attention on social media platforms, where users circulated screenshots of the document and ridiculed the error. Several users highlighted the spelling mistake with emojis, criticism and mockery, shifting the online conversation from the substantive diplomatic engagement itself to the wording of the announcement.
This is not the first time a slip-up in a government communication associated with Prime Minister Sharif has attracted online commentary. In a previous instance last year, a widely shared screenshot showed an apparent typo in which a statement meant to say “I condemn the attack” was mistakenly read as “I condom the attack”, becoming fodder for memes and jokes.
Despite the online buzz over the wording, Sharif’s US visit remains officially scheduled to involve high-level diplomatic discussions and participation in the Board of Peace gathering, underscoring Pakistan’s ongoing engagement in international forums.
