Bhubaneswar: The Congress on Thursday demanded IG Arun Bothra to be replaced as the head of the Crime Branch Special Investigation Team (SIT) which is investigating the murder of 5-year-old Pari in Nayagarh district.
Briefing the media, leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) Narasingha Mishra said Bothra has no police power as he is presently posted as the managing director of the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC).
Maintaining that no police officer without the police power can be a part of the SIT team, he said the state government should immediately remove Bothra as the SIT chief and appoint an officer having police power under Section 36 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
Notably, the former Director General of Police (DGP) Prakash Mishra had also questioned the credibility of the SIT probe led by Bothra.
