Paris Olympics: Manu Bhaker In Line For 2nd Medal; Arjun Babuta Misses Bronze By Whisker
New Delhi: A day after clinching a historic bronze medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics, Manu Bhaker showed her mettle once again at the Chateauroux shooting ranges, around 270 kilometres from Paris.
The 22-year-old Manu, pairing with Sarabjot Singh, finished third in the qualification round of the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event to qualify for the bronze medal match.
Manu and Sarabjot scored 193, 195 and 192 in their 3 series of shots for an aggregate of 580. They were just 1 behind Serbia and 2 adrift of Turkey, who will face off in the gold-medal clash.
India will take on South Korea’s Jin Ye Oh and Wonho Lee for the bronze at 1 pm on Tuesday.
Rhythm Sangwan and Arjun Singh Cheema, the other Indian duo in fray, finished 10th.
India had high hopes from Arjun Babuta in Men’s 10m Air Rifle competition, but the shooter from Punjab fell just short in Monday’s final.
Competing in his maiden Olympics, Babuta shot a total of 208.4 to lose out on the bronze to Croatia’s Miran Maricic. Babuta managed a 9.5 in response to Maricic’s 10.7 on the final shot.
What hurt Babuta’s podium chances was a 9.9 in his 13th shot.
In women’s 10m Air Rifle final, Ramita Jindal finished 7th.
