New Delhi: Following an all-party meeting with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday, the Parliament is likely to function smoothly from Monday (July 28). Om Birla held a meeting with senior political party leaders. According to reports citing Parliamentary sources, it was agreed during the meeting that the House would function smoothly starting Monday.

Debate on Operation Sindoor

Lok Sabha is set to debate Operation Sindoor on Monday, the ANI reported. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will lead the discussion in Lok Sabha. Home Minister Amit Shah and Foreign Minister S Jaishankar will participate. BJP MPs Anurag Thakur and Nishikant Dubey are also expected to join the debate. Prime Minister Narendra Modi may intervene in the discussion. The Operation was launched by India to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack.

The INDIA bloc MPs staged a protest outside Parliament premises, expressing strong objections to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise being undertaken by the Election Commission of India in Bihar.

The discussion on the same topic will take place in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Both the houses will have a 16-hr long discussion on Operation Sindoor. This was announced by Parliamentary Affairs minister Kiren Rijiju.

Why the logjam?

The opposition has been raking up issues such as special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, US President Donald Trump’s claim on India-Pakistan ‘ceasefire’ and the Pahalgam terror attack since the Monsoon session commenced on July 21. This has led to a logjam. Earlier in the day, the lower house was adjourned amid sloganeering and protests by Opposition members.
