Partial Success For 3 Rly Agencies On Trail Of Woman Who ‘Stole’ Rs 10K Shoes Of Odisha DRM’s Daughter
Bhubaneswar: It took three railway agencies – Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) – over a month to trace a woman, who allegedly mistakenly got down from Lucknow Mail wearing the shoes of the daughter of a senior railway official.
According to reports, Manvi Singh, daughter of Odisha’s DRM Vineet Singh, found her shoes worth Rs 10,000 missing while travelling in AC first-class coach of Lucknow Mail on January 4. A theft complaint was lodged with Government Railway Police, Sambalpur, the following day.
“The complaint was transferred to Bareilly railway station by the third week of January since the female passenger, suspected to have taken the shoes, got down at Bareilly Junction,” in-charge of the GRP at Bareilly railway station Ajit Pratap Singh told The Express.
She was sitting on the nearby seat.
When the GRP could not trace the women from the CCTV footage at the railway station, it sought help from the IRCTC officials for reservation details of the passengers of the AC first-class coach. “It worked, and we zeroed in on the suspect,” Deputy SP (Bareilly GRP) Devi Dayal was quoted as saying by the national daily.
When questioned, the woman, a resident of Bareilly, told the GRP that she mistakenly wore the shoes when she got down at Bareilly station around 3.45 am. “Though she has accepted her mistake, we are yet to recover the shoes,” the GRP official added.
