Puri: Four persons were injured after a youth went on a rampage attacking passengers onboard an Ama Bus, en route to Sukal in Puri district from Harashpada, on Tuesday.
According to sources, the young man, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, came in a motorcycle and boarded the bus after flagging it down near Bidhana Chhak at around 11 am. He then attacked a person with a sharp weapon over an alleged past enmity. When other passengers intervened, he became aggressive and attacked them indiscriminately. Four among the passengers sustained critical injuries but the attacker was subdued and handed over to the police, who arrived quickly at the spot on being informed about the incident.
The injured victims were then rushed to a nearby hospital at Kanasa for treatment.
The incident has sparked public outrage and even brought under scrutiny the efficacy of ‘Operation Chakra’, a special drive by Puri Police to make the district crime-free, particularly with thousands of devotees and Habishyalis flocking to the pilgrim town with the commencement of Kartika Brata.
