The mishap took place when Singh was returning from lavatory in the campus of Nilagiri sub-divisional hospital where he was admitted five days back, said sources.

According to family members of the deceased, Singh was recovering well and scheduled to be discharged in a day. They levelled allegation on the hospital authorities for carelessness.

The authorities said that a contractor engaged in some work was instructed to remove the cables from the hospital campus.

Meanwhile, Nilagiri CDMO Dr Sarojini Pradhan said an inquiry will be conducted to ascertain how the patient left the ward for going out without an escort.
