Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam in which 26 people were killed, elaborate security measures are being taken along the Odisha coast to prevent any unlawful activities.
As security was tightened along the coast, joint patrolling was carried out by the Indian Navy and the marine police under the jurisdiction of Astaranga marine police limits, particularly near the Devi River mouth, sources said.
While a close vigil was kept on movement of vessels, the patrolling teams have been conducting identity checks on fishermen operating in the area and have issued advisories urging them to remain alert. Fishermen have been asked to report any suspicious activity or unidentified individuals immediately to authorities.
A senior police official said that security arrangements have been strengthened in all coastal zones of the state and regular patrolling is being carried out. “We are verifying identity documents like Aadhaar cards, especially in cases involving unfamiliar or suspicious vessels,” he said.
Fishermen have also been briefed on security protocols and urged to cooperate with the police. The officials have also given phone number to the fishermen on which they can contact in case of suspicious activity.
As part of preventive measures, security forces continue to maintain high alert across key coastal zones.
