Sambalpur: A girl student was found with head injuries along the Sambalpur University-Atal Chhak Road in Odisha’s Sambalpur town on Wednesday.
The injured has been identified as Sonali Naik, a postgraduate library science student of Sambalpur University and a resident of Burla.
Police rescued the girl after being informed by locals at around 4 pm and got her admitted to VIMSAR, Burla. “We responded immediately upon receiving information and rescued her,” subdivisional police officer, Burla, Baleswar Giddhi told the media.
Though no evidence of sexual assault was found during preliminary medical examination, she has not be able to explain the circumstances leading to her injuries.
University sources said Sonali had been absent from classes for the past one week.
Following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father, police launched an investigation and began examining CCTV cameras for some clue into incident. Though it was initially suspected that some catering staff, who arrived at the spot in two autorickshaws, could be behind the attack, it was later negated. Further questioning is on, sources said.
Meanwhile, parents of the victim, whose condition is stated to be stable, have decided to shift her to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for further treatment.
