Bhubaneswar: The Nayapalli Police here on Friday arrested one person for allegedly running a fake job racket under the garb of a placement agency.
The accused has been identified as Sobhan Ranjan Behera. He was arrested on basis of at least five complaints and Rs 6 lakh was seized from him.
According to police, Debabrata Karna of Boudh’s Ramgada on March 23 lodged a complaint, alleging that Behera cheated him of Rs 6 lakh on the pretext of getting him a job through his agency. He had paid this amount in 2023.
Again on May 15, Biswaranjan Dash of Mancheswar approached police after the accused allegedly duped him of Rs 15 lakh by promising him a job. The same day, police received three more complaints from Soumya Ranjan Pattanaik of Boudh’s Chhatranga, Sudhanshu Sekhar Patra and Daitri Behera of Ganjam’s Khalikote, whom he duped of Rs 11 lakh, Rs 11 lakh and Rs 15.75 lakh respectively.
The accused was running Sanjoga Consultancy in Nayapalli and Jharapada and promised them Probationary Officer (PO) posts in different banks and contractual jobs in post offices, the sources added.
