Actor-Turned Politician Rachana Banerjee Apologises
Actor-turned politician Rachana Banerjee on Sunday apologised for naming the victim in a social media post.
The apology came after a complaint filed Kolkata High Court advocate by Shayan Sachin Basu.
Rachana recently posted a video on her social media handle condemning the incident, with the name of the victim appearing at the end.
According to the complainant, Rachana mentioned the victim’s name multiple times “recklessly, thus exacerbating the trauma of the victim and further endangering her safety and dignity.”
Admitting her mistake, Rachana said she had deleted the video.
“It was definitely a very big mistake on my part. I shouldn’t have done that. I should have referred to her as ‘Tilottama,’ as everyone else is doing. I was very sad and emotional at that moment while making the video. All the words I was saying were from my heart, and it was not scripted. Naturally, with the emotion, that name came to my mind,” Rachana told India Today.
Trinamool MP Summoned By Cops Over ‘Sniffer Dog’ Claim
Senior Trinamool Congress MP Sukhendu Shekhar Ray hasn’t been spared and has been summoned by police for allegedly spreading misinformation on the gruesome rape and murder.
Ray claimed that a dog squad was sent to the crime scene three days after the victim’s body was found.
“The information that sniffer dog was sent after three days is completely wrong. A sniffer dog was sent twice on August 9 and then on 12. A notice has been sent to Shri Sukhendu Sekhar Roy,” Kolkata Police said in a statement.
The 75-year-old Ray, a Rajya Sabha MP, made the concerned post on August 18.
“CBI must act fairly. Custodial interrogation of Ex Principal and Police Commissioner is a must to know who and why floated suicide story. Why wall of hall demolished, who patronised Roy to be so powerful, why sniffer dog used after 3 days. 100s of such questions. Make them speak,” Ray posted on X.
