New Delhi: Hours after Rahul Gandhi claimed that the Narendra Modi-helmed government will collapse within a year, the BJP hit back with full force, accusing the Congress and Opposition parties of attempting to destabilise the country.

Union Commerce & Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, saying that the Leader of Opposition’s comment pointed to a ‘major conspiracy’.

“Rahul Gandhi’s statement points towards a major conspiracy by the Congress, along with all Opposition parties, and the toolkit gang dreaming of destabilising India, against the country. This is no ordinary statement but a serious plot to spread anarchy in the nation,” Goyal said.

“When Rahul Gandhi & Co. realised that they couldn’t remove the dynamic Prime Minister Narendra Modi Ji from the hearts of the people and couldn’t defeat the BJP in a direct democratic battle, now they want to incite violence across the country,” the minister alleged.

“They harbour so much hatred for India that they can’t even bear to see anything good happening to the nation. Defaming the country, insulting constitutional institutions, and going abroad to appeal to foreign powers to interfere in India’s internal affairs — this reveals what the Congress’ true intentions are,” Goyal said.

“The people of the country are wise. They very well understand Rahul Gandhi, the Opposition, and the toolkit gang working against the nation. The public has repeatedly given these people a resounding response. The INDI alliance’s conspiracy to set India ablaze will never succeed,” Goyal added.

BJP MP Sambit Patra accused Rahul of repeatedly making provocative statements against PM Modi.

In a video message, Patra said the Congress MP had once again crossed the line with his comment that the Modi government will fall.

“This is not the first time Rahul Gandhi has made such remarks. In 2019 as well, he said that a time would come when people would come out on the streets and beat Prime Minister Modi with sticks,” Patra said.

He recalled PM Modi’s response. “It was said in Parliament, and the Prime Minister responded very calmly, saying that he would do more yoga and pranayama, and that he would strengthen his back if such things were said about him.”

Another BJP leader Pradeep Bhandari also flayed Rahul, saying that the Congress leader was “losing his mind again”.

Bhandari targeted Congress party’s electoral performance under Rahul’s leadership, saying that the party had faced “repeated electoral humiliations”, adding that “Congress has lost 99 elections”.

The comment that has faced BJP’s ire was made by Rahul at a Congress minority advisory committee meeting on Saturday. “Modi government will fall in the next one year,” Rahul said, adding that rising economic discontent will be the reason for it.
