New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that the initiative, aimed at promoting installation of solar panels on rooftops, will be named ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.’

“In order to further sustainable development and people’s wellbeing, we are launching the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. This project, with an investment of over Rs 75,000 crore, aims to light up 1 crore households by providing up to 300 units of free electricity every month,” Modi wrote on X.

He had announced about his government’s plan to launch an initiative to generate electricity through solar power under the name, ‘Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana’, on January 22  after returning home from Ayodhya, wherein he had presided over the consecration ceremony of Ram temple.

THE SCHEME

>> All stakeholders will be integrated to a National Online Portal which will further convenience.

“Let’s boost solar power and sustainable progress. I urge all residential consumers, especially youngsters, to strengthen the PM – Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana by applying at — https://pmsuryaghar.gov.in,” the PM added.

The allocation for grid-connected solar power for the fiscal 2024-25 stands at an impressive Rs 10,000 crore, a significant increase from the Rs 4,970 crore allocated in 2023-24.
