Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to former Odisha chief minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik, who is recuperating after a spine surgery for cervical arthritis at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai, last night.

The PM inquired about his health and conveyed his best wishes for a swift and complete recovery, sources said on Thursday.

Taking to their respective X handles, Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor also wished Naveen a speedy recovery. Stalin mentioned that he spoke to Dr S Rajasekaran, orthopaedic surgeon and chairman of Ganga Medical Center and Hospitals in Coimbatore, who conducted the surgery. “Glad to hear from him that Thiru Naveen Patnaik is doing well. I wish him fast and complete recovery and continued good health,” he wrote.

In his post, Tharoor wrote that he was relieved to know from friends that Naveen was doing well after the surgery. “Wish him a speedy and complete recovery!” he wrote.

A delegation of senior BJD women leaders, including Sulata Deo, Sulochana Das and Snehangini Chhuria, also visited the party president at the hospital on Thursday. “He greeted us with ‘Jai Jagannath’. His elder brother Prem Patnaik was with him as he was undergoing physiotherapy,” Rajya Sabha member Deo told the media.

Snehangini Chhuria said that people of Odisha are waiting for Naveen to recover fully and soon return to the state.
