New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated two mega highway projects in the national capital region — the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) — together built at a cost of nearly ₹11,000 crore. These projects have been developed under a comprehensive decongestion plan for Delhi. The Prime Minister also open the 29-km Dwarka Expressway, including its Delhi section and tunnel access to Indira Gandhi International Airport.

According to officials, these projects are expected to reduce travel time from Noida to IGI Airport and ease congestion on Delhi’s Ring Road, NH-48, NH-44, and the Barapullah elevated corridor.

The Dwarka Expressway’s Delhi stretch, around 10 km long, has been developed at an estimated cost of ₹5,360 crore, reports claimed. It runs from Shiv Murti near Mahipalpur to Dwarka Sector-21 and extends up to the Delhi–Haryana border. The corridor is expected to provide smooth access to the Yashobhoomi convention centre, Delhi Metro’s Blue and Airport lines, the upcoming Bijwasan railway station and the Dwarka bus depot.

The UER-II project, built at a cost of about ₹5,580 crore, stretches from Alipur to Dichaon Kalan, with important spurs to Sonipat and Bahadurgarh. Officials said the corridor is designed to act as a major ring road for Delhi, helping decongest traffic at key choke points like Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and along NH-9 and the city’s outer ring roads.

The two projects together are expected to ease travel for commuters between Delhi, Gurugram, Sonipat, Bahadurgarh and Noida, while also facilitating movement of freight vehicles bypassing the capital. According to government officials, the corridors will not only cut congestion but also boost connectivity for industrial and residential hubs along their alignment. Real estate and logistics players are also expecting a positive push with the opening of the two high-capacity road projects.

Now, Delhi moves closer to completing a third concentric ring road network around the city, easing the pressure on existing inner and outer ring roads.
