New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi targeted the Congress at an election rally in Kerala on Sunday, accusing the grand old party of indulging in politics during an international crisis.

Modi even said that Congress leaders’ remarks on the West Asia war could endanger lives of Indians living in Gulf countries.

“At this time, everyone’s attention is on the war going on in West Asia. Our government is continuously working to ensure that its impact on India is minimal,” Modi said at an NDA rally in Palakkad.

“The protection of Indians’ interests is the top priority for the BJP-NDA government,” he reiterated.

Training guns on the Congress, Modi said, “You must also remember the kind of statements the Congress is making on this sensitive issue; they are dangerous. Congress wants the lives of nearly one crore Indians living in Gulf countries to be put at risk so that it can gain political advantage.”

In his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address also, Modi cautioned against politicisation of the current crisis and said there is no place for self-serving politics.

“Presently, a fierce war is going on in our neighbourhood for a month. These certainly are challenging times. Today, through ‘Mann Ki Baat’, I would once again urge all my countrymen that we must unitedly overcome this challenge,” the prime minister said during his monthly radio broadcast.

He added that those who are politicising this issue should refrain from doing so as this is a matter concerning the interests of 140 crore citizens.

“I would also appeal to all citizens to remain vigilant and not be misled by rumours. Trust only the continuous information provided by the government and take action based only on that,” Modi advised.
