Police Arrest Looters’ Gang From Tamil Nadu In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A special squad of the Commissionerate of Police has nabbed a gang of looters that was involve in several cases in Odisha’s twin cities.

According to DCP Prateek Singh, the inter-state gang was active in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for the last 3 months. The gang had managed to evade police as its members belonged to Tamil Nadu, he added.

Speaking on the gang’s modus operandi, the DCP said its members used to recce in a particular locality of the cities and mark a lonely or locked house for loot. They would break open that house particularly in early morning and decamp with the valuables.

Besides, the gang was also involved in snatching mobile phones from the people who were plucking flowers in the morning, he added.

“If the neighbours or locals would ask them anything out of suspicion, they used to pretend as deaf and dumb and managed to escape by winning the sympathy of the people,” Singh said.

All the three members of the gang, who have been arrested, are in the age group of 35 to 50 years. They had committed crime in 12 places of the twin cities.

Following the arrest, the police have seized 4 lptops, 7 mobile phones, chargers and other electronic items from the possession of the arrested persons, the DCP said.
