Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday apprehended an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police at Talcher in Angul district for allegedly taking Rs 3000 bribe from a man.
The accused, identified as Dharanidhar Nath was caught while demanding and taking bribe of Rs.3000 from a complainant to help him in a case, of which he was the Investigating Officer.
The ASI demanded immediate payment of Rs 3000 and threatened to arrest the complainant if the demand was not met.
Finding no other way, the man reported the matter to Vigilance authorities. Based on this, Vigilance officials apprehended Nath while taking the bribe money from the complainant. The entire bribe money of Rs 3000 was recovered and seized from the exclusive possession of the ASI.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations of Nath from Disproportionate Assets angle. A case has been registered and investigation is in progress.
