Police ASI ‘Impregnates’ Minor Niece

Nayagarh: An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police was arrested for allegedly raping his minor niece in Nayagarh district.

The police officer has been identified as Brajabandhu Mallick. He was posted at Fategarh police station in the district.

The incident took place at Fategarh area.

The minor girl’s mother had gone outside for some work while her mentally retarded father was present at home. Taking advantage of the situation, Mallick raped her and fled the spot.

The incident came to light after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint with the women’s commission. In her complaint, she has alleged that her daughter is five months pregnant.

“We have received a complaint from the Child Welfare Committee (CWC, Nayagarh) against the ASI. A case has been registered against him and further investigation is on,” informed Fategarh police station inspector-in-charge Ashutosh Mishra.
