Police Block Entry Of NNKS Activists To Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Police which had blocked the entry of the Naba Nirman Krushak Sangathan (NNKS) activists to Bhubaneswar to foil their mega convention three months ago, resorted to the same tactics on Wednesday.

Reports said the police detained the NNKS activists at Tamando and Hansapal on the outskirts of the city besides Vani Vihar, Master Canteen and Railway Station in the city.

Protesting the police action, several activists staged a dharna at the Master Canteen Square disrupting vehicular traffic. However, hundreds of activists marched towards the Lower PMG Square to attend the convention where they were picked up by the police.

Apart from Bhubaneswar, police also detained the NNKS activists at Remuna in Balasore and at the railway station in Cuttack.

Talking to mediapersons, NNKS national convener Akshay Kumar said the state government despite its repressive measures on the farmers, cannot stop them from protesting against its anti-farmer policy.

Maintaining that the KALIA scheme of the state government is a sugar-coated pill for the farmers, he said the farmer community will teach the government a bitter lesson in the ensuing elections if it did not mend its attitude and fulfil their demands at the earliest.
