Police Book Two For Murder In Odisha’s VSSUT Student Chinmayee Death Case

Bhubaneswar: A murder case has been registered in connection with the mysterious death of a BTech graduate, who allegedly died after jumping into the power channel of Hirakud dam from PC bridge on NH-53 under Burla police limits in Odisha’s Sambalpur district.

Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) student Chinmayee Priyadarshini Sahoo went missing after attending the convocation at the varsity on Tuesday night and her body was fished out the following morning.

According to sources, police have booked her male friend, Pritiman Dey of BJB Nagar in Bhubaneswar and Manas Tudu, a final year student of VSSUT, under Sections 302, 201 and 34 of the IPC. The duo was detained for questioning on Wednesday.

Suspecting that Chinmayee was strangulated to death, her family had lodged a written complaint against them. Pritiman had reportedly accompanied her to the power channel. Police had seized mobile phone of a student, who was heard telling someone over mobile phone to delete Facebook account while the body was being recovered, the sources added.

Chinmayee, who hailed from Madanpur Rampur in Kalahandi district, had got a job offer during placement but had not accepted it as she was preparing for CDS examination while staying in Bhubaneswar. She was in Burla only to receive her degree and was scheduled to return to the state capital in the evening.
