Police Dismiss Woman Assault Case Against Bhubaneswar MLA

Bhubaneswar: A day after registering a complaint of assault on a woman against Bhubaneswar (Central) MLA Ananta Narayan Jena, police dismissed the case as false.

According to a complaint filed by the woman at Baghamari police station in Khurda district, the MLA and his associates came to her house at night on May 19 and started hurling abuses at her husband. Since no male member was present in the house, she did not open the door.

But the legislator and others accompanying him forcefully opened the door and assaulted her. Before leaving, they threatened to kill her, the complainant said.

On the basis of the complaint, the police registered a case and launched an investigation. Police have also booked two associates of Jena and 20 others in this case.

Following investigation, police came to know that the woman wanted to settle score with Jena after her husband was arrested for attacking a relative of the MLA.

After the case was registered, Jena has refuted the allegations claiming that he was in a hospital on the day when the alleged incident happened. He also said the complainant’s husband is a dreaded criminal and had attacked one of his relatives staying in Sarua Pubusahi for refusing to pay extortion amount.
