Balasore: A police officer posted in Odisha’s Balasore district has created a sensation after he allegedly threatened to end his life if his demands are not met.
As per information, the tribal officer posted as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Balasore with additional charge as SDPO of Jeleswar in the district, has been identified as Brajamohan Pradhan (58).
Sources said Pradhan has written a letter to the IG of Police, Eastern Range, alleging that he has been under tremendous pressure, both mental and physical. He has also reportedly made allegation of harassment and mental torture by senior officers.
Claiming that he has not been getting any support from the office to discharge his duty, Pradhan said the dual responsibility of working both in Balasore and Jaleswar had made life miserable for him.
Demanding withdrawal of additional charge of Jaleswar SDPO, Pradhan allegedly threatened to commit suicide if this request is not fulfilled.
Meanwhile, Pradhan, who hails from Kandhamal, was admitted to the community health centre (CHC) at Jaleswar after he suddenly fell ill.
DIG Eastern Range Satyajit Naik visited the hospital and spoke to Pradhan. They engaged in a discussion regarding the issues surrounding his allegations. SDPO Pradhan had previously levelled accusations against SP Balasore, alleging torture and harassment.
The meeting aimed to address the concerns and grievances raised by Pradhan, with DIG Naik seeking to understand the situation better and potentially explore a resolution.
Reacting to the incident, BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty said it is a sorry state of affairs that a tribal SDPO had to take such a step due to ‘wrongs’ meted out to him. This incident is shocking, especially considering that Odisha has a tribal Chief Minister who is also in charge of the Home Department, he said in a statement.
