Khurda: An Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) has been suspended for allegedly assaulting a ward member at Jankia in Odisha’s Khurda district.
The ASI, identified as Niranjan Mohanty, was placed under suspension with immediate effect following allegation that he had thrashed ward member Nabakishore Harichandan when the latter had gone to Jankia police station for some work.
As the Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of the police station was not present, the ward member was leaving the place while speaking to someone over phone. The ASI reportedly called the ward member, but the latter could not hear as he was speaking on phone.
Angry over this, the ASI allegedly attacked him and also thrashed him with a stone. When a panchayat samiti member Ishwar Martha present at the site protested, he was also attacked by the ASI.
