Baripada: Police on Monday recovered the body of the young man who went missing while bathing in Baitarani river in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Sunday.
According to sources, the police along with Fire services personnel had launched a search operation in the river at Sana Kunda of Bhimkund after the youth went missing. But they had not found his body till evening and called off the search.
The IIC of Thakurmunda police station, Sabitri Dalei, had said if they failed to find the missing youth, they would seek the help of ODRAF on Monday. However, the youth’s body was found floating in the gorge in the morning and the police recovered it.
The youth, identified as Biswajit Das of Balikuda in Jagatsinghpur district, along with five other youths had gone on a picnic to Bhimkund, a tourist spot in the district. While they were bathing in Sana Kunda, 19-year-old Biswajit’s feet slipped and he was pulled into deep water by a strong current. After waiting for some time, when he did not come out of water, others informed the locals.
A team from Thakurmunda police station along with Fire services personnel also went to the spot after being informed and started a search operation for Biswajit in the river. But they failed to trace him.
A diploma holder, Biswajit was working a vehicle showroom in Bhubaneswar, the sources said. Meanwhile, police said they would hand over his body to family members after post-mortem.
