“Both Sangram and Tanuja had not been getting along well for a long time. Cases have been registered in the police station in this connection. The incident took place in their house at about 10 pm on September 30, when the couple had a quarrel. Sangram asphyxiated his wife in a fit of rage and rammed her head on the wall. When her condition became critical, he informed his girlfriend who stays in a hostel. He picked up his girlfriend from the hostel and together with his six-year-old son, he brought his unconscious wife to Bhubaneswar and left for Cuttack. Doctors at Aswini Hospital in the CDA area of Cuttack told him that there was a remote chance that his wife would survive. So he came to back to Bhubaneswar at about 1 am bringing his injured wife along. After leaving his girlfriend at the hostel, Sangram was heading to Kalpana Square when he discovered that his wife had already died. He panicked and called his girlfriend again but she refused to accompany him. He still went to the hostel and after talking to her, he decided to leave for Kolkata with his son. He boarded a train at the Bhubaneswar Railway station after leaving the vehicle near Sriram Nagar area in Samantarapur. On the way, his vehicle was hit by a lorry. But the impact of the collision was minor as the headlight of the vehicle was on. We have CCTV footage of the hostel where Sangram and his girlfriend are seen talking to each other at about 2 am,” the police commissioner said.
Thanking the Lingaraj Police, the special squad and the DCP for their joint effort in arresting the accused, Mohanty asked mediapersons to provide the police any additional information on this case.
