Washington: The US government left no stone unturned to push for the Nobel Peace Prize 2025 to be awarded to Donald Trump.
The White House even projected Trump as ‘The Peace President’, while Trump himself claimed multiple times that he had ‘ended eight wars’.
On Friday afternoon, though, all their hopes were dashed as Venezuela’s main opposition leader Maria Corina Machado was declared winner of the coveted prize.
Responding to the jury’s decision, the White House took a subtle dig at the Nobel Committee, saying they chose politics over peace.
“Once again, the Nobel Committee has proved they place politics over peace,” a White House statement read.
White House spokesperson Steven Cheung asserted that denial of Nobel Peace Prize won’t deter Trump from pushing for peace deals
“President Trump will continue making peace deals, ending wars, and saving lives. He has the heart of a humanitarian, and there will never be anyone like him who can move mountains with the sheer force of his will,” Cheung wrote on X.
The President is yet to comment on the Nobel decision, but he did post three videos on his Truth Social account on Friday morning showing supporters celebrating the Gaza deal.
Trump, who campaigned aggressively and relentlessly for the Nobel Peace Prize, announced a ceasefire and hostage deal to end the war in Gaza earlier this week.
On Thursday, Trump lashed out at his predecessor and Nobel laureate Barack Obama, claiming that the latter received the award for “doing nothing” and for “destroying our country.” Trump went on to state that Obama was “not a good President.”
